D. Margeaux Thomas

Founder
Bio

Margeaux’s path to advocacy for small business entrepreneurs has its roots in Cleveland, Ohio. It was here, where Margeaux grew up, that she first understood the privilege, and responsibility, of being an advocate for others.

Margeaux was supported in her journey by parents, both first-generation college students, raised in inner city Cleveland, who emphasized academic excellence and became small business owners themselves. They fueled her lifelong quest for knowledge and ultimate passion for the practice of law. She graduated magna cum laude with Phi Beta Kappa honors from Bowling Green State University and earned a law degree from Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law.  After passing the bar, she practiced business law for nine years between Williams Mullen,  a large regional law firm, and Miles & Stockbridge, PC, a mid-sized regional firm, before embarking on her entrepreneurial journey with Thomas Law in 2016.

Over her 15+ year career, Margeaux honed the skills to be able to provide others with the support and education they need to make informed business decisions, making abstract ideas feel tangible and concrete, and weaving that information into a narrative that advances the interests of her clients.  This approach has yielded successful outcomes for her business clients, ranging from multiplying profits to protecting their hard-earned success in legal disputes.  A commitment to advocacy, and nurturing authentic relationships, is realized with each client Margeaux represents.

She has continued her love of education by teaching others. Margeaux has conducted legal trainings, traveling the country as a faculty lecturer for Lawline, MyLawCLE, the National Business Institute, and LawPracticeCLE, and educating more than 5,000 attorneys on business law issues.  She was also appointed to serve as a faculty member for the Virginia State Bar Harry L. Carrico Professionalism Course for a three-year term from October 2024 to September 2027.

It hasn’t been all intellectual challenge; her father was a prolific athlete and also a coach, and with him, Margeaux shared an absolute love of sport which fueled her competitive drive, and resiliency in accomplishing goals in the face of adversity.  Through these combined experiences, Margeaux developed her core beliefs and a tenacity she applies in all areas of her life, whether in the courtroom or on the basketball court, although these days you’re more likely to find her in the lap pool than with a ball in hand. In addition to founding Thomas Law, Margeaux is the creator of Vegetable Forward, LLC, which is dedicated to educating non-profits on how to plan, grow, and cultivate community gardens. A foodie, vegetarian for the past 20 years, and vegan for the past two, she understands that each experience, each bite, each conversation, and each unexpected detour plays an integral part of our narrative.
